Scion

The Scions are people who exist to balance the might and knowledge of the Gods, and manifest in the form of ordinary men and women who are utterly immune to all forms of divine power - and in fact, are effectively invisible, inaudible, and indetectable to even the strongest deities.

In addition, there is evidence that a Scion can neutralize a God by standing inside them; for instance, when the scion Gribbius attempted to tackle the Rotting God he became suspended inside Bazra's body, rather than suffering any impact; and until he exited, Bazra was frozen and unaware of the passage of time.

Each Scion is marked by the following sigil, which appears as a tattoo on the right shoulder:



At present, there are four Scions, but it is likely that this number rises or falls to accomodate the number of Gods in existence. In addition, after the deaths of Gods Ciarn and Skalla, two more Gods were born to keep the ratio the same. According to Goddess Mayah, if Scions had died after Ciarn and Skalla, the new Gods would not have come into being.

The new Gods seem to be patterned in some way after the Scions.

Each Scion has a title, although how this title is selected and bestowed is not entirely clear. In addition, each Scion exists in an uncalled state until a brief calling ritual is observed; it is likewise unclear what difference this makes, although it functions at least secondarily as initial proof of identity.

• Gribby Snatcher (Fist, called by Alsima of Bazra)
• Minerva Jadahal (Tears, called by Neri Navarri of Luminar)
• Christopher Mallart (Teeth, called by Neri Navarri of Luminar)

A common belief - which has not been disproven - is that the titles represent the aspects of divinity: Fist, representing strength; Tears, representing compassion or understanding; Hammer, representing creation and destruction; and Teeth, representing instruction.
